Equipment

  • food processor
  • microwave-safe bowl
  •  microwave

Ingredients

  • - 1 tablespoon of oat flakes
  • - 3 tablespoons of milk can substitute with breast milk or formula for younger babies
  • - 1 teaspoon of mashed banana adds sweetness and creaminess
  • - 1 teaspoon of apple sauce adds natural sweetness and flavor

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Oats

  • Start by prepping the rolled oats. If you want to make this recipe in bulk, you can blitz about 1 cup of oats in a food processor until they’re finely ground. This will give you the perfect texture for your baby. Once powdered, store the oats in an airtight container in your pantry. Prepping ahead like this means you're ready to whip up a meal any time!

Step 2: Measure the Ingredients

  • For each small serving, you will need 1 tablespoon of the prepared oat flour. Combine this with 3 tablespoons of your chosen milk in a microwave-safe bowl.

Step 3: Add Flavor

  • Next, mix in 1 teaspoon of mashed banana and 1 teaspoon of apple sauce. This not only enhances the flavor but also maintains the creamy texture that babies love. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 4: Microwave the Mixture

  • Place the bowl in the microwave and heat the mixture on high for 20 seconds. After the timer goes off, take it out and give it a good stir. This will help ensure an even consistency.

Step 5: Cook Further

  • Return the bowl to the microwave for another 20 seconds and stir again. By breaking up any lumps during the cooking process, you’ll ensure your baby enjoys a smooth porridge.

Step 6: Cool Before Serving

  • Let the porridge cool for a minute or two before serving it. This is super important! A hot bowl can be tempting for little fingers, but we don’t want any scalded tongues here.

Notes

- Start Slow: If your baby is new to solid foods, introduce porridge in small amounts and observe for any allergies.
- Keep It Fresh: To save time, prepare a batch of oat flour in advance. Just remember to store it properly!
- Customize Flavors: Feel free to swap in fruits your baby loves. Try pureed pears or peaches for variety.
- Mix Up Textures: As your baby grows more used to solid foods, you can leave the oats less finely ground for a different texture.
- Use Whole Milk: For babies over one year, whole milk can offer added fat and calories essential for growth.
